The London Diocese recently highlighted Memory Café run by St Cuthbert's Church, Wembley.

Revd Steve Morris since his appointment 18 months ago, has opened up the church to the community. The Memory Café helps the elderly and lonely who live locally.

By doing this, the church has been able to create a real presence in the community and has grown with more people worshipping every Sunday.

When Steve arrived he found that the community did not know the church was there. The building was only open on Sundays and a small service on Thursdays. They asked themselves, "What's the thing we can do? Where is this community hurting?"

They knew from experience there are many lonely people, many older people, and many people with memory problems. So they created Memory Café. They have activities, memory games, breathing activities, aerobics, singing. People also come who want to volunteer.

About 50% of new people who come to church have come through Memory Café. People who come feel really grateful. They want to know why are these Christian folk are doing this for them.
