The Assemblis team are hosting a series of informal drop-in sessions for anyone who's organised a community assembly, is thinking about it, or is just curious how it's done.

Each session is lean coffee style — no slides, no fixed agenda. You bring the questions, we vote on what to talk about, and we timebox the conversation so everyone gets airtime. Each one focuses on a different stage of running an assembly:

Plan — getting from an idea to a real, scheduled assembly - Oct 27
Facilitate — running the room on the day - Nov 11
Follow-up — closing the loop afterwards - Nov 26

• Walk away with an understanding of how to think about effective and responsible AI use in the context of community listening.
• Learn from peers who are using AI to accelerate, scale, and strengthen their feedback processes.
• Identify strategies and tools to support your organization’s feedback collection, analysis, and course correction.

In this session, we get to the heart of how we can move people to action. This online webinar facilitated by Nick Gardham will build on from the Grassroots Organising webinar and will explore how, once we have reached out and listened to a community, how can we then move people to action.

Community organising is a proven method, to reach out beyond the existing network or membership of an organisation, using practical listening tools to engage people, build relationships and find leaders. In this session, we get to hear what motivates people to take action in their community. How can we mobilise a network of people we have listened to, to take action? How do we get people to take action around the things they care about? And how do we know what is the right action to take?

Listening is the foundation to all community organising. Without listening, you are unable to build relationships, identify leaders and bring people together to take action on issues.

But it isn’t always easy. This webinar explores when listening conversations can become challenging, for example when someone says something that you may believe are false, misleading, or harmful. It will help to prepare you for those difficult conversations by showing you that the best way is not necessarily to correct people but to understand why they might feel like that, develop the conversation to get to the root cause of this concern and find out what experiences they may have had to make them feel like that. And finally, to know when to challenge and how to challenge.
